An important upcoming webinar: “What happens to the landscape, happens to oneself” – External and internal violence and abuse in reindeer herding communities

We are pleased to share this upcoming webinar from NOGVIS – the Nordic Network on Gendered Violence in Sámi and Inuit Communities.

The webinar presents research on how violence in Sápmi can be understood in a broader context that includes historical subordination and colonialisation, present-day discrimination, actions affecting the land, and violence and abuse within families, relationships, and communities.

Drawing on interviews with people from Sámi reindeer herding communities, the study also highlights the importance of gender relations, kinship, economic conditions, local community norms, and historical trauma. It addresses structural, institutional, and cultural barriers that can make it difficult for victims to seek and receive adequate support.
