Aurelia Reichardt, MSc

British Antarctic Survey

Aurelia is in polar gear and life vest in front of icebergs.

What’s the work that you do?

I am the station leader at Rothera research station, the UKs largest polar station. I am responsible for the oversight and safety management of Rothera, across a complex and high-workload operational landscape, including air and field operations, diving and heavy construction.

What keeps you going?

It’s an incredibly important place to me, being able to facilitate science and support safe operations in this remote environment is deeply satisfying. It’s being part of a bigger purpose and working with a super motivated team to achieve a common goal.

What’s your message to the world?

What happens in Antarctica affects us all. If we get together as a strong team, we can overcome challenges and turn political tides, to protect places that matter to us, and the entire world.
